HBI was awarded the Instrument Support Contract for Mitsubishi Chemicals’ major shutdown in Autumn 2021. The scope of work was comprehensive and critical to the success of the shutdown, and it included the following key responsibilities:
-
Provision of Skilled Instrument Technicians: HBI deployed a team of qualified instrument technicians who were integral to the execution of the shutdown plan. Over a six-week period, these technicians provided hands-on support, ensuring that the shutdown activities were completed efficiently and in accordance with the planned schedule.
-
Instrument Calibration: Our team was tasked with calibrating all instruments included within the shutdown program. This involved working within predefined work packs to ensure that all instruments were calibrated to the required standards, guaranteeing optimal performance when the plant resumed operation.
-
Fault Identification and Rectification: A key part of the support involved identifying any faults in the instrumentation during the shutdown. Technicians carried out detailed inspections, diagnostic checks, and repairs to rectify any issues, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the plant post-shutdown.
-
Instrumentation Replacement and Re-Commissioning: In cases where instruments were beyond repair, our team replaced and re-commissioned various pieces of equipment. This included the installation of new instruments and ensuring that they were fully integrated into the system and operational according to plant specifications.
-
Adherence to Tight Deadlines: The shutdown had strict deadlines and time constraints, requiring our team to work efficiently without compromising quality or safety. Despite the challenging timelines, we successfully met all deadlines, completing tasks on schedule.
-
Commitment to Safety: Throughout the six-week shutdown, we operated with a strong focus on safety, ensuring zero lost time incidents (LTI) and no accidents. Our team adhered to all safety protocols, conducted regular risk assessments, and participated in continuous safety briefings to maintain a safe working environment.
By effectively coordinating all activities and focusing on safety and efficiency, HBI contributed to the successful and timely completion of the Mitsubishi Chemicals shutdown, minimising downtime and ensuring the continued operational readiness of the plant.
